continued Gilead’s Hope spent a total of $36,339 in 2017. Major expenses include the following: $21,000: 6 open heart valve replacements @ $3,500 each $3,400: Keo Sokha, medications after kidney transplant $1,700: Yak Eak, cervical spine surgery/fusion $ 868: Vit Rouen, lumbar spine laminectomy $ 570: MRI’s for patients. $ 567: Soknea, age 6, aplastic anemia medications $ 500: Chum Chuon, ERCP for biliary obstruction $ 200: Min Muoy, ligation of esophageal varices We spent the remaining $7,534 in smaller sums on 51 other poor Cambodian patients for medications, labs, ultrasounds, x-rays, EKG’s, physical therapy, vaccines, dental care, gynecology procedures, outpatient/inpatient fees, and patient travel. Family practice residents and senior medical students Soknea, age 6 with aplastic anemia requiring immunosuppressive medications Patients with severe rheumatic heart disease require open heart surgery and valve replacement at $3,500 per case. This is quite a bargain compared with US prices at over $80,000. Frequently near death, they can experience immediate relief of their extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. By this operation, we hope to extend their lives 20 or more years. Many are parents of young children or the sole supporter of their family. I have several patients waiting for funding at this time. It is a privilege to be God’s messenger and caring hands to some of the poorest suffering in Cambodia. We clearly explain the loving gospel of Jesus Christ as God’s plan of salvation to each patient. We pray with them for healing and comfort. As before, I work when back in the USA so I can provide my own funding for any personal expenses. 100% of your donated funds are used for patient care. We are a 501c3 tax exempt organization. Thank you for your past donations and continued support to include praying God’s wisdom for me in prioritizing spending. And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday. And the Lord will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:10-11
