I am busy teaching the 20 internal/family medicine residents in our 3 year post graduate program at Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital (www.SKMH.org). We also teach another 10 senior medical students from various medical schools located the capital city of Phnom Penh. We offer an excellent rural medical education with rotations in surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, OB-GYN, internal medicine, gastroenterology, and emergency medicine. With access to modern online medical information such as US websites UptoDate, and the American College of Physicians Resident Board Internal Medicine lectures, our Cambodian physicians continue to improve their critical thinking and thus patient outcomes. I’m learning new things myself by teaching.

The mission of Gilead’s Hope is to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ through specific medical and surgical interventions for poor Cambodians, and to educate the next generation of young Cambodian physicians. 2024 was another busy year of assisting over 95 poor Cambodian patients with the main diagnoses being: rheumatic heart disease requiring open-heart surgery and valve replacement, autoimmune kidney disease (especially lupus) in young adults, aplastic anemia (bone marrow failure) in young adults, and lumbar radiculopathy.
